GOD IS SO REASONABLE, ONLY ASKING FOR 10%
"We encourage tithing at our church, not as a legalism, but as a means of grace. Indeed, not just tithing, but what our pastor terms 'hilarious generosity,' to the church, to the poor, to worthy God-centered causes ('The Backlash Against Tithing,' Weekend Journal, Nov. 23). Why? First, God is worthy of our best. Giving is an act of worship that, at its best, reflects a genuine response to God’s many gifts to us, including the gift of his Son. Perhaps the proper question to ask isn’t 'how much of my income do I need to give to God?' but 'of all God has entrusted to me, how much can I justify spending on myself?' Second, the needs are great. It doesn’t take much analysis to notice that small shifts in our own consumption can make a huge difference in the lives of many who are in need. Finally, giving, with tithing as a discipline, helps us unhook from the grasp of our materialistic culture. Give until it hurts? No, give until it helps! God’s grace, our gratitude, generous giving: a recipe for a life of great freedom and joy." -Margaret L. McKinley

This Sunday's SWH Concert featuring the Con Brio String Quartet is the last in our 2021 series. We had unforgettable musicians this past year: the Florida Chamber Music Project, Beaux Duo Arts, Astralis Chamber, Cheri Taylor &The Fergusons, and Cameron Cody & friends. This Sunday's artists are based in Tallahassee, Florida, and are members of the Palm Beach Symphony, Symphony of the Americas, and the Florida Grand Opera. David Pedraza, viola, Valentin Mansurov, violin, Martina Lenau, violinist, and Aziz Sapaev, cello. You can read their bios in the bulletin insert. We are so delighted to have these virtuoso musicians with us in worship on Sunday! CONGRATULATIONS to Charlie and Stephanie Judd on the birth of Barbara Jane Judd, who decided to come earlier than expected (October 13). We will postpone the baby shower for now, but you can drop off your gift in the breezeway on Sunday.
This Sunday marks the beginning of our 2022 Pledge Campaign. Our theme this year is G.I.F.T. - Growing In Faith Together. Over the next three weeks, we want to challenge you to make a pledge that will further the ministries of Wesley UMC at Frederica. We ask that you enter this season with prayer and supplication! During this time, members of our congregation will talk to you about how tithing and good stewardship have deepened their faith. They will speak of the blessings that we have received as a church and what next year might hold for us. Thanks again for your prayerful consideration!
CONNECT THROUGH TEXT
This past week, you should have received Wesley’s first mass text message on October 13. Contact the church office with questions or if you didn’t receive this message.
SKYLARK VIRTUAL BANQUET
For those who weren't able to make it to this year's Skylark banquet, they livestreamed the event! This year's event was about Skylark’s core values and even has client testimonials. Click HERE to watch.
UMW PECAN FUNDRAISER
Wesley UMW is selling Mascot Pecans this Sunday, October 17, and next Sunday, October 24, to support our missions projects. Please complete the order form found in the church bulletin and give it to one of our members stationed in the Breezeway who is ready to take your order form and your cash, check, or credit card payment. Please make your checks out to “Wesley UMW” with “Pecans” on the memo line. Orders will be ready for pickup on November 14 and 21. We thank you for your support of our missions and our UMW!
CHILDREN AND PARENTS
All 3rd-5th graders are invited to join us for acolyte training directly after our special 10:45am Children's Sunday service on October 24. Pastor Jerry will train new acolytes and give a refresher course to those already trained. Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP at bit.ly/WUMCacolyte if you plan to join us or if you can't join us, but your student is still interested in serving on our acolyte rotation.
This Sunday, during Children's Church, our elementary students will learn that God has equipped them to use their gifts to help others through the story of Lydia (Acts 16:13-15), while our preschool + Pre-K students will continue to learn that God has made them to do BIG things through the story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17:1-50). Send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to our Wesley Kids Weekly email list and stay connected on all things Wesley Kids.
We're looking for adult volunteers to help out with Children's Ministry activities on Sunday mornings! Maybe you're an adult who wants to invest in the spiritual lives of children here at Wesley, maybe you're a parent who wants to be a part of what your child is learning on Sunday mornings, or maybe you're not even sure if working with kids is your thing. Either way, contact Samantha at email@example.com for more information!
STUDENTS AND PARENTS
Hey parents, this Sunday will be Logan’s last Sunday night for youth. We will be having food and drinks for his last night. We’re excited to have the last night together before Logan leaves. Please reach out to Victoria with any questions firstname.lastname@example.org.
October is Pastor Appreciation month, and we would be remiss to let it slip by without expressing our gratitude for Pastor Jerry and Gina. We are so thankful for their faithful service to the Lord and to Wesley. Also, October 24 is Pastor Jerry’s birthday! Feel free to stop by the Breezeway Sunday October 10 to sign a birthday card, or drop one in a designated basket. Daniel 12:3 says, "Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever."
