There are opportunities in Christian Education and small group formation to aid in the spiritual growth of adults, youth, and children of Wesley.
The last words of our Lord Jesus Christ should be the first concern of Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica: “Go make disciples.” Our Christian faith is unable to deepen in isolation. We need each other for encouragement and accountability as we journey together toward our ultimate destination: Christ-likeness.
Be encouraged to become involved, not only in the larger corporate worship experience, but also in the small group encounters that shape us into disciples who glorify an awesome God! Wesley United Methodist Church wants each member of our church to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ and to be a minister, actively involved in doing the work of the Kingdom. We are convinced this is achieved when believers are in relationship with other believers.
One way we are seeking to make this happen is through LIFE GROUPS, the small group ministry of Wesley UMC. We hope you will review this information to help discern where you may best connect and grow.
Pastor’s Bible Study: This coed group meets on Monday mornings at 10:00am in the Chapel across from the Sanctuary. This is a growing class and open to people of all ages. They enjoy coffee, refreshments, and a very insightful study presented by Rev. Steve Patton.
Epic Bible Studies: The Epic Bible studies led by our pastor, Steve Patton involve two components. The first is a set of twelve filmed, approximately half-hour, sessions with Dr. Sandra Richter, and the second is a study guide for each of your group members. This workbook includes five individual studies per week, to be done at home. The idea is that each member will be working at home at their own pace, doing as much or little as schedules permit. Once per week your group gathers to view the filmed study, talk about the individual work from the week, and focus on some group discussion questions. Let the adventure begin!
Prime Timers: The Prime Timers are an active group of senior adults who enjoy great fellowship and laughter. Several outings are scheduled throughout the year. Transportation can be arranged for any planned activity and is provided for all out-of-town trips. Our monthly Lunch Bunch visits many favorite, reasonably priced local restaurants.
Book Club: The Book Club meets monthly on the third Saturday at Sweet Mama’s Restaurant to discuss their selected book for the month.
Emmaus: The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. There are several people in our church who have participated.
Financial Peace University: FPU is a nine-week class on money taught by America's most trusted financial guru, Dave Ramsey. We are currently offering this class once a year.
Women’s Circle: The United Methodist Women, aka UMW or Dorcas Circle, meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 10:00am in the Wesley Cafe. The circle enjoys great fellowship and devotions and places a high level of emphasis on mission efforts both locally and abroad. This is a rapidly growing and enthusiastic group. Questions? You may contact Sophia Condon and Brenda Meredith.
The Jim Wroton Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group: This group is Wesley’s connection to the United Methodist Men. They enjoy fellowship, Bible study, and a hearty breakfast at Wesley UMC from 7:00 to 8:00am every Wednesday morning. They have been in existence for many years and have welcomed with enthusiasm many new members.
Harry Reese Bible Study: This group meets for fellowship and Bible study once a week on Monday evenings at 5:00pm. They choose from a variety of books and Bible studies. They are also involved in hands-on ministry projects and are currently meeting at Marsh's Edge.
