SPRC ANNOUNCEMENTChristopher Goodson has accepted a position at Plymouth United Church of Christ in Des Moines, Iowa, where he will serve as Director of Music and Fine Arts. On his last Sunday in ministry at Wesley, August 27, there will be a reception in Celebration Hall following the 10:45am service. We want to show our appreciation to Chris with a love offering to be presented at the reception. To contribute, make your check payable to Wesley UMC with “Chris Goodson” in the memo line and drop it in the offering plate. While we will miss Chris and his extraordinary contributions to music and worship, we celebrate his opportunity and trust that God will use him mightily in this new endeavor.
GOODSON FAREWELL RECEPTIONJoin us in giving our music director, Chris Goodson, our finest Wesley farewell at a reception following the 10:45am worship service on Sunday, August 27. This event is hosted by the Wesley Church family, and food items and volunteers are needed. Click here for a list of needs and sign-up opportunities. Call Paige Gober with questions: 634-1412 x 13.
RATIO CHRISTIOn Sunday, August 27, Paul Compton of RatioChristi.org will be our special guest for 9:00 and 10:45am worship, speaking on the Validity of God’s Word. His incredible presentation will include the Ashkenazi scroll. This scroll was in Germany on the night of Kristallnacht (Nov. 9-10, 1938) when Nazis burned 267 synagogues and destroyed more than 800 scrolls, which represented about 10% of these ancient documents in existence at that time. The Ashkenazi scroll is one of the few that survived; it is older than the Declaration of Independence! In addition to worship, Paul will also speak to local youth volunteers and ministers on Saturday, August 26. See the article "Youth Exodus" for details. We hope that you will join us for these events. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to RSVP for Saturday.
ACOLYTE TRAININGAcolyte training will be held Sunday, August 27 for all interested students in Grades 4, 5 and 6. This training is a great refresher for seasoned acolytes and an important step for first-timers. Kids should come to the dining room at noon for pizza; afterward, they will head to the Sanctuary for training. During the school year, our goal is to have a regular rotation of trained acolytes who serve once a month and become “experts.” To RSVP for the training session or sign up for the rotation, email Maryellen Aiken: email@example.com.
BIBLE PRESENTATIONSAs our children mature in their faith, their church family celebrates their growth and recognizes their journey toward spiritual maturity by presenting fourth-grade students with their very own age-appropriate Bible. This special presentation will take place in the 9:00 and 10:45am services on August 27. Please encourage and pray for our growing children! Info: firstname.lastname@example.org.
MIDDLE SCHOOL RETREATThe Middle School Fall Retreat will be an amazing weekend of worship, small groups, and deeper faith. Info: email@example.com.
YOUTH EXODUSAre you a youth volunteer, 707 leader, coach, or teacher? Do you have a teenager in your house? If so, we’d like to invite you to breakfast on Saturday, August 26 from 9:00-11:00am. Thanks to the generosity of others, this is a free event. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
