At Wesley, we are a proud supporter of music and the arts in our community. The Golden Isles Community Chorus and the Golden Isles Community MESSIAH Chorus both call Wesley home. Directed by our Director of Music, these choirs offer the opportunity for choral singers from throughout our community to lift their voices in song together. We also offer outreach to the Glynn Academy Band program and have volunteers who lead music in worship at Magnolia Manor on a monthly basis. Additionally, we support the mission and activities of the Golden Isles Community Band and the Coastal Brass Choir as they seek to build our community through music and education.

The Community MESSIAH Chorus is made up of choristers from all over the Golden Isles area. Of the over 100 members, most call St. Simons Island or Brunswick home, but many come from Jekyll Island, Jesup, Waverly, Conyers, Darien, and Kingsland. This group rehearses on Monday evenings in November from 6:30-8:30pm to present two concerts of the Christmas portion of Handel's “Messiah” on the first Saturday and Sunday in December.
We perform two concerts with the Magnolia String Quartet (Jacksonville, FL), organ, woodwinds, brass, and timpani. We always welcome new members. For more information, contact Debbie Vogel.
GOLDEN ISLES COMMUNITY CHOIR (GICC)

Communications: Debbie Vogel
The mission of the Golden Isles Community Chorus is to spread the joy of choral music, encouraging and further developing choral singing in the Golden Isles by providing an opportunity for singers to join in a non-auditioned chorus to perform quality works from the choral and choral-orchestral literature. We present free concerts in an effort to enrich the cultural life of our community. Further, this group supports and works in harmony with other choral opportunities in our community, including the Golden Isles Community MESSIAH Chorus.
For more information, or to join, please contact Debbie Vogel (GoldenIslesCommunityChorus@gmail.com).
Fall Concert: Rehearsals on Mondays (6:30-8:30pm) in September and October with a Sunday evening concert in late October or early November.
Spring Concert: Rehearsals on Mondays (6:30-8:30pm) in January, February, and March (depending on where Easter falls on the calendar) with a Sunday evening concert two Sundays before Easter.
In Fall 2016, we presented a Hymn Festival with the Golden Isles Community Chorus; Cameron Cody, organist; and the Coastal Brass Choir.
PARTNER IN EDUCATION: GLYNN ACADEMY BAND
We support the Glynn Academy Band program through encouraging the music education of local students in our community by assisting and instructing in a variety of ways. We have several Wesley students active in the GA Band. Our Director of Music Ministries has been supportive by serving as an Assistant Marching Band Director and offering instructional support.
Accompanied by Lucy Sanders
On the first Sunday of each month, a group from the Wesley Choir (and any others who would like to participate) meet to lead music for worship at Magnolia Manor, a United Methodist-affiliated assisted living and nursing facility on St. Simons Island. The group meets at 4:00pm for worship at 4:15-5:00pm. They sing from the Cokesbury Hymnal. We always welcome additional participants!
WE ARE PROUD TO SUPPORT:
Golden Isles Community Band
The Golden Isles Community Band, a true community band made up of members from across the Golden Isles, including professional musicians, adult professionals, retirees, and gifted high school and even middle school students, rehearses on Tuesday evenings, 7:00-8:30pm, in the band room at Brunswick High School. The rehearsal calendar runs October through November, and February through the end of May. The band regularly performs fall and spring concerts in the Brunswick High School Auditorium, as well as “Taps at Twilight” on Memorial Day at Pier Village on St. Simons Island. Alan Wendel is the lead director for the GICB.
Coastal Brass Choir
The Coastal Brass Choir is a brass choir whose members come from the local community. This group specifically performs music written and arranged for brass choir. Recent concerts include Ritz Theatre; Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica; St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Darien; pre-concert music for Presidio Brass (part of Golden Isles Live concert series); concerts to support Oak Grove Cemetery; July 4 Concert at Mary Ross Waterfront Park; and July 4 Concert at St. Simons United Methodist Church; First Friday Concerts in Brunswick; and Christmas brass caroling at various locations, including the Fort Frederica National Monument.
In October 2016, the Coastal Brass Choir collaborated with the Golden Isles Community Chorus to present a hymn festival. This group is open to collaborate with others in our community as we seek to present community concerts in the Golden Isles.
