CHILDREN
& YOUTH

The Children’s Choir Program is an important opportunity in the lives
of our children.

The children’s music program seeks to provide age-appropriate music education in a Christian environment. The children are exposed to a variety of musical experiences, including musical guests and the musical instrument families, as well as choir training, which focuses on teaching the children how to sing and sight-read music. The abilities to sing and read music are precious gifts that our children can enjoy and use to contribute to worship for their entire lives. Experience with music at this age is very important and can foster a life-long love of music. In addition to music education, this is an important time to teach our children about the church: its structure, symbolism, worship, liturgy, and music. We highly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to give a priceless gift to your children for the sake of their future. Children are placed in age-specific groups.

ENSEMBLES & OPPORTUNITIES

KINDERBEATS

Taught by Annabelle Gallagher
Time: Wednesday 5:00-5:45pm
Location: Room 502

We invite you to participate in the world’s leading program of music and movement for children. Dedicated to the development of the whole child, the curriculum is gently structured and focuses on activities that promote growth in cognitive, physical, social, emotional, language development, and of course, singing! This valuable learning experience is designed to promote a lifelong love of discovery and music.

The Kindermusik curriculum combines singing, movement, storytelling, instrument playing, improvisation, and musical concepts in a way that is both educational and entertaining to children. The early exposure to music has a direct effect on the development of the brain. Language and literacy skills, especially vocabulary, comprehension, listening, and expression, are significantly enhanced through exposure to music education early in life. Other areas that show improvements include social and emotional development, mathematic and pattern recognition. One’s ability to plan, guide, and self-regulate behavior also improves with music education.

Kindermusik classes explore many developmentally appropriate facets of the musical experience such as speaking and singing, moving, listening, creating, and playing rhythm instruments. At Wesley, Kindermusik instruction will be offered to our youngest age groups (Pre-K and Kindergarten) through the Children’s Music program by a licensed Kindermusik educator who is abreast to the latest research and pedagogical trends. This is an exciting addition to our curriculum!
