The Chrismon Ministry:
This ministry, newly formed by the Worship Committee, will be making Chrismon ornaments for use on a Sanctuary Christmas Tree. Chrismon designs are monograms and symbols that reflect the Christian faith, and have been used since Biblical times. As we make these beautiful gold and white ornaments, we’ll take the opportunity to learn the meaning of the symbols, as well. We invite interested church members to join us in this endeavor. No experience is necessary, just willing hands. Please call Nancy Avery, the instructor for this new ministry, at 634-6589. You may also call Faye Moore (638-5254), or Gaylene Benson (638-1154), for additional information. Also, you may want to check out these two internet sites:
- http://www.chrismon.org/site/chrismon.htm - Chrismon Ministry history & patterns
- www.umcs.org/chrismons - instructions for making Chrismons
For those who may not be able to participate in the making of the ornaments, but would like to contribute toward the effort, please keep in mind that we’ll be collecting the following items throughout the year:
- Old white and gold tone jewelry
- Gold colored beads and gold ribbon
- Gold colored glitter and sequins
- Gold and white colored wire, trim, cording
- Taffeta or fabric scraps (white or cream)
- Clear and white plastic container can covers (from powdered drink mixes or other similar cans)
- 10 mm foam board (normally used for making posters)
If you would like to donate some of these items, please place them in the marked basket located in the Marshall Gathering Room. Thank you for your contribution!
